Sponsoring Dance and Performing Arts at the Thwaites Empire Theatre

Capita Business Services were approached by the Blackburn Theatre Trust back in February 2002 with regards to a possible sponsorship opportunity at the newly refurbished Thwaites Empire Theatre.

Capita were delighted to have been given the opportunity which involved converting an old factory building at the rear of the Theatre.

Capita Performing Arts Centre

The building was renamed the Capita Performing Arts Centre, offering beautiful dance facilities including a fully equipped dance studio, dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms and offices.

Capita's support has taken the form not only of monetary sponsorship but also the continuing promotion of the Centre which provides much needed facilities in the community for children and local theatre groups.

Dance and Drama Groups for Children

Class Act - Drama

Classes every Friday evening for approx 1hr 20 mins.

7 to 9yrs           5 - 6:20pm

10 to 12yrs        6:30 - 7:50pm

13+                  8 - 9:20pm

The groups work on a range of activities including and not exclusively, workshops, games, rehearsals and end of term performance (performance will be in the rehearsal room and not open to public)

Each age group works in on a ten-week term, the cost of which is £40 per term. These groups do not partake in any formal examinations.

 

Blackburn Youth Theatre - Drama

Classes every Sunday afternoon for approx 1hr 30 mins.

8-12yrs 2 - 3:30pm

13+ 3:30 - 5:30pm

The groups work on a range of performance skills leading to performances once or twice a year. This group often has the opportunity to be part of local films, theatre, pantomimes and musicals.

Each session is paid weekly at a rate of £4 per session. These groups do not partake in any formal examinations.

These groups offer specialist dance and drama training to children. They are examined by LAMDA, ISTD, QCA and CDET.
