Jim Bowen celebrates his Golden Wedding Anniversary

Jime Bowen celebrates his Golden Wedding Anniversary at Thwaites Empire Theatre

When the men from Chester College went to the Christmas Ball at the ladies St. Katharine's College in Liverpool in the late 1950's, a young student met a girl called Phyllis. He later wrote that "it seemed the most natural thing in the world that we should become partners for life". They married in 1959 and are about to celebrate their Golden Wedding.

That student became the legendary Jim Bowen whose TV break in The Comedians led to him hosting one of television's longest running game shows: Bullseye. After that Jim regularly performed on the QE2, had a very popular morning programme on Radio Lancashire and has been in great demand on the student circuit - including speaking at both the Oxford and Cambridge Unions. He has even taken his show to the Edinburgh Festival.

To mark his Golden Wedding, Jim has decided to put on a show at the Thwaites Empire Theatre in Blackburn with the band he worked with on the QE2: Colin Bryant's Hot Rhythm Orchestra. They have built up a great rapport over the years - they even let Jim play his trumpet and sing with them! And, of course, he'll be telling jokes as well.

Jim is no stranger the Thwaites Empire Theatre. A few years ago he recorded a show there that was released as a DVD, ‘You Can't Tell These Anymore'. But he particularly chose this venue because the theatre is also about to celebrate an anniversary - next year will be its centenary year. A whole host of special events are planned for 2010 but this will be a great night to set the ball rolling with some wonderful music and laughter.
